With over 2 million tonnes of food waste thrown away by consumers at home (and more by businesses) the Food Standards agency has been offering advice on how to reduce this and save money by freezing more etc.
Food labelling is confusing with Use By, Best Before, Sell By and Display Until causing food to be thrown away unnecessarily due to a lack of clarity and understanding in those storing and using food.
WRAP have released guidance for those dating and labelling food of different types. There are checklists looking at freezing, storing and product life, the uncut fruit and vegetable guide and the fresh chicken guide as well as decision trees in the full guidance to help food manufacturers label appropriately.
